The ballot recount officially ended Friday, November 30.

This recount was issued after Sheriff Lewis Hatcher lost in the original count by 34 votes.

The board of elections says they had to feed 19,000 ballots back into their machines, which is why it was a lengthy process.

"We just need to make sure that the ballots are being fed in properly and that the tabulators are tabulating each ballot that's going in," said Portia Bowen, of the Columbus County Board of Elections. "We did have some jams, which is normal, but the jams were removed and the ballots were counted."

After the recount, the election board held a hearing to discuss four protests filed, asking for the Columbus County election to be thrown out and a new election ordered.

However, the board says there was not enough evidence.

Greene will be sworn into office on Monday at 9 a.m. at the Columbus County courthouse.
