CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a carjacking and sexual assault in South Charlotte.

  • Police say a man used a weapon to force himself into a woman's car at a Park Road Shopping Center ATM.
  • He tried to sexually assault her.
  • Officers found the victim's 2009 Hyundai Sonata with a South Carolina license place PEJ-947.

Police say a woman was carjacked and the suspect attempted to assault her. It happened at the Park Road Shopping Center Thursday when a 22-year-old woman was using the ATM around 2 a.m.

Police say the man used a weapon to force himself into the car, drove her to another spot, and then attempted to sexually assault her. They say security cameras did catch the suspects face, but it was covered with a mask.

According police, the suspect was last seen wearing Jeans, a two-toned jacket (possibly grey and white), black and white shoes, a black hat and a gray mask.

Officers say they have located the victim’s 2009 Hyundai Sonata with a South Carolina license place PEJ-947. It was unoccupied.
