CARTERET COUNTY -- The busiest shopping day of the year is only days away and the pressure is on for Morehead City's waterfront businesses to open in time for the holidays, after Hurricane Florence.

  • Some have been closed the past two months fixing damaged roofs, walls, and flooring
  • This is the case for Silver Line Jewelry on Evans Street
  • They hope to have the store fully opened by the end of this week

Some businesses were open shortly after the storm, but some have been closed the past two months fixing damaged roofs, walls, and flooring.

This is the same case for Silver Line Jewelry on Evans Street. The owners said the support from the community has helped keep them motivated.

"Quickly, we came together as a community when everyone was here, and we worked together," said owner Tom Flynn. "We've been talking to each other about what's going on with our stores. We're all excited about getting open again."

He and his wife Melissa said they hope to have the store fully opened by the end of this week.
