NATIONWIDE -- Ninety-two people in 29 states have been infected by a drug-resistant form of salmonella.

The Center for Disease Control says the bacteria is linked to raw chicken products, including pet food, chicken pieces and ground pieces of whole chicken.

Four cases have been reported in North Carolina.

Twenty-one people have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.

The CDC urges people to handle raw chicken carefully, cook it thoroughly and to wash hands after handling meat.
