WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA – Both North Carolina Senators welcomed members of Trump’s cabinet to town, to see hard hit areas and what is needed for recovery.

Sec. Ben Carson, in charge of the nation’s Department of Housing and Urban Development, toured Eastbrook Housing Complex in Wilmington to see the type of damage the area sustained.

“We work for the people, the people don't work for us, and the best way to actually work for the people is to actually see what the people are doing, to hear from the people themselves,” said Ben Carson.

Senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr also accompanied the federal cabinet members on their visit saying they are committed to getting the federal funding that is needed, about $1.14 billion for North Carolina.

Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta said there are a number of benefits available to North Carolinians that they can receive now because of this emergency situation that they were not eligible for before.

Both the Senators say if you’re having trouble filing your claim with FEMA, or getting denied for issues, to contact their office so they can keep track of who is falling through the cracks and address it.

“Just because you get a denial does not mean you’re denied,” said NC Representative David Rouzer, “FEMA doesn’t look at that first denial as a dead end.”
