CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. -- FEMA workers are going door to door in New Bern to help residents apply for disaster recovery assistance for damages sustained by Hurricane Florence.

This tactic is used in communities where language may be a barrier. Canvassing through neighborhoods can help FEMA reach as many as 26 households per day.

The agency has set up mobile stations to help property owners apply for assistance as well.

There are currently two places in Craven County where Hurricane Florence survivors can go to get face-to-face help in registering for assistance:

Former Rue21 clothing store

537 Hwy. 70 W, Suite 103

Havelock, NC 28532

Former Eckerd Drugstore

710 Degraffenreid Ave.

New Bern, NC 28560

Both sites are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until further notice.

You can also go online to DisasterAssistance.gov, call FEMA at 800-621-3362, or download the FEMA mobile app.
