CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The fact that a Charlotte City Council member caught an accident involving an electric scooter on video may give fuel to scooter opponents.

On Facebook Live, Tariq Bokhari recorded the aftermath of a car hitting a woman on an electric scooter on Brevard Street in Uptown Charlotte Tuesday.

Witnesses said the woman was going the wrong way and ran a red light. She is expected to be OK.

Bokhari later said it gives council members a lot to think about as they discuss regulating scooters.

"I didn't want to sensationalize it, but we're literally in the 11th hour of deciding how to regulate these things, and I just wanted everyone to see what I was seeing and feeling at the time,” he stated.

Over the summer, the city started a pilot program to collect data on the scooters.
