SMITHFIELD, N.C. – A community in Johnston County is mourning after a tragic accident left a 2 year old dead Monday.

• A 2-year-old girl died after being run over in Johnston County.
• The driver of the car was the girl's grandmother.
• The death has been determined accidental and charges are not expected. 

According to the sheriff’s office, a grandmother was returning to her home around 4:51 p.m. when she accidentally ran over her 2-year-old granddaughter in her driveway.

The accident occurred in the 3000 block of Hwy 70 E.

Investigators do not expect charges to be filed.
