PENDER COUNTY, N.C. -- The State Highway Patrol came to the rescue Friday when a pregnant woman went into labor at a make shift hospital in the parking lot of a Family Dollar in Burgaw.

  • A woman trapped by Florence gave birth in the parking lot of a Family Dollar Friday.
  • State Highway Patrol airlifted an OB/GYN to the scene. 
  • Burgaw remains cut off from the rest of the state due to Florence.

Burgaw is one of many coastal towns that remain largely cut off from the rest of the state due to flooding and damaged roads.

 The State Highway Patrol had to use a helicopter to get an OB/GYN to the woman. 

The woman and her newborn's names have not been released to the public.
