BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. --  Officials at an evacuation shelter at West Brunswick High School say they are responding to reports of gastro-intestinal symptoms at the shelter.

  • The symptoms are said to be similar to norovirus.
  • Norovirus symptoms include nausea and vomiting.
  • Anyone needing shelter should go to South Brunswick High School. 

According to officials, the symptoms are “typical of a nororvirus.” The health department is working to confirm.

Norovirus symptoms, which can appear as early as 12 hours after exposure, include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, accompanied by a low grade fever or none at all. 

It is highly contagious and infects a large number of people in close quarters like schools and office buildings. 

Anyone seeking shelter is advised to go to South Brunswick High School, located at 100 Cougar Drive in Boiling Spring.
