NEW BERN, N.C. -- Several people in and around the New Bern area took to social media to cry for help overnight as floodwaters quickly rose due as Hurricane Florence started to roll through.
Despite mandatory evacuation orders in Craven County, New Bern responders had to perform more than 150 water rescues overnight as the Neuse River rose.
The City of New Bern tweeted around 2:30 a.m. on Friday that they had two out-of-state FEMA teams helping out with swift water rescues. They urged people to move up to the second story as they waited to be rescued and reassured them that they were on the way.
