The dates will now be revealed no later than Oct. 1.
Initially, the RNC contract said the dates had to be solidified by Sept. 15.
"Due to Hurricane Florence and anticipated impacts on North Carolina and South Carolina this weekend, the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee, the RNC, the City of Charlotte and the Hornets have determined it appropriate to delay the RNC’s announcement of the scheduled dates for the 2020 Republican National Convention, to avoid creating an unnecessary distraction for the City and related agencies at this time. All priorities should be on the safety of communities affected by the storm. The RNC currently anticipates making its determination of the convention date period no later than October 1, 2018," said John Lassiter, the CEO of the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee in a statement.
Hurricane Florence could bring over 30 inches of rain to the Carolinas.
