CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. -- One person is in custody after an officer-involved shooting in Cleveland County Tuesday night.

  • An officer-involved shooting took place in Cleveland County.
  • Cleveland County Deputy Tim Sims was hit in the cheek and thigh. 
  • Suspect, Dakota Greene, was taken into custody. 

Investigators say it happened around 10:30 p.m. at K.M. Auto Brokers off of U.S. Highway 74 in Kings Mountain.

 

 

 They say the deputy responded to a report of a suspicious person.

When he arrived at the scene, authorities say the suspect fired, hitting the deputy in the cheek and thigh. He was taken to the hospital.

The deputy fired back one round, but did not hit the shooter.

A suspect was later taken into custody and has been idenitfied as Dakota Greene. He has his first appearance in court Wednesday morning. On the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department bulletin, he is chraged with attempted first degree murder. The wounded deputy has been identified as Tim Sims. 

During a press briefing, the sheriff called it a "senseless attack," and Deputy Sims is expected to recover.

Meanwhile people on social media are offering support for the wounded deputy.
