WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. -- Surfs up at Wrightsville Beach, as the small town hosts three large surfing events in August!

  • Wrightsville Beach is hosting 3 surf competitions in August.
  • There's a competition for everyone!

Voted one of the “Ten Best Little Surf Towns in America" by Coastal Living Magazine, the small town is living up to its’ reputation.

The twenty-first annual Wrightsville Beach Wahine Classic, open to women surfers of all ages, is happening this weekend!

"The girls create their own energy, so it’s very different. And the guys notice that at least as much as the girls do. And the guys love to come and watch. They're very good sports about giving us the space,” says Jo Pickett, the event organizer and surfing instructor at Crystal South Surf.

Then next weekend, the second largest surfing contest on the east coast is coming to Wrightsville Beach.

Dozens of amateur surfers, and an average of 96 professional surfers, from around the world will participate in this exciting three-day event known as The O'Neill/Sweetwater Pro-Am.

Some professionals that have won the ultimate $20,000 pro purse in this event in the past include Rob Machado, Fisher Heverly and Avon Cormican.

Closing out the month is the Surfers Healing event for people with Autism, which runs August 20.
