CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A huge crowd turned out early Wednesday morning to try to get tickets for the hit play Hamilton.

They went on sale at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center at 5:30 a.m. and wrapped around 10:00 a.m. 

The theater used a wristband lottery system based on a random selection numbers.

Online sales began at 8 a.m. and the waiting list for tickets reached up to more than 80,000 in line.

#Hamilton became trending in Charlotte on Twitter as people talked about the long wait and trying to get tickets. 

 

 

 

 
 
 

On Twitter, Blumenthal addressed the lag in their online system, saying that it was temporarily shut down because of a technical, bot-related issue. 

 

 

 

 


Online sales resumed after 10:00 a.m.
 
 

Earlier this week, tickets went on-sale for season ticket holders for the Durham run at the Durham Performing Arts Center.
