PENDER COUNTY, N.C. -- Eleven Pender County homeowners affected by Hurricane Matthew will receive nearly $1.6 million in federal and state funds to buy out their storm damaged homes and move elsewhere.

The announcement was made by state emergency management Friday.

It brings the total hazard mitigation grants awarded in the state to $81.5 million for 639 properties.

At least $33 million more could be awarded by early August.
