Pace is also charged with raping a 72-year-old resident.

Public records show Pace is also a registered sex offender, convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl in 1982.

DHHS says the center failed to comply with general statutes.

Pace is being held in Edgecombe County without bond. He is expected in court in December.
