A group of teens presented a new device before the governor’s Crime Commission on school shootings Thursday.

"We were looking at major issues happening currently and the Parkland shooting just happened. We figured as high school students, we needed to come up with a solution," said Ishan Sharma, a junior at Panther Creek High School.

The young minds from Cary and Apex formed a team this past year in the young entrepreneurship program.

Tasked with creating an original invention, they came up with the Tripillar, which helps identify a school shooter and gun more quickly.

"It's a pillar. It has four sensors on top and four sensors in the middle. It scans and tells you there is an assailant, this is the weapon he's carrying, and then the school will go on automatic lockdown"

The idea is still in the early design phase but it's getting a lot of attention by state leaders; they’ve praised the innovators for being at the forefront of the discussion on school safety.
