Any hopes of outdoor plans for the weekend will be washed away as we settled into a wet weather pattern across the Carolinas.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast this weekend and into the new work week. Most of central and eastern North Carolina should see around three to six inches of rain through next Friday.

Eastern North Carolina will see the best chance for rain Friday night into Saturday as an area of low pressure moves up the Carolina coast.

Central North Carolina should see more storms Saturday afternoon and evening. Some of those storms could be a bit strong with locally heavy downpours, frequent lightning and strong wind gusts.

Scattered showers and afternoon thunderstorms will stay in the forecast through next week. Because of the scattered nature of the storms, rain is not guaranteed every day for every location in the state.

Based on the expected coverage of storms, most locations will have about a 60 percent chance for rain each day.
