WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- A North Carolina lawmaker shuns President Donald Trump after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Wake County Rep. Grier Martin tweeted the president saying, “Don't come back. You are not worthy to stand on American soil made free by the sacrifices of men and women better than you.”

"Like many Americans I was disgusted to see the president of the United States go to a summit with the leader of Russia, a country that clearly has interfered in our elections and sought at every turn to undermine American interests,” Martin said after the tweet went viral. “And to see that president as he's representing all Americans get up there and essentially side with Russia over Americans."

Martin went on to say the president should have stood up to Putin and put American interests first.

On Tuesday, President Trump backed away from his public undermining of American intelligence agencies, saying he simply misspoke when he said he saw no reason to believe Russia had interfered in the 2016 U.S. election.
