OAK ISLAND, N.C. -- More parking spaces may soon be coming to Oak Island.

  • The town council has made an offer to purchase a site on Ocean Drive where the Driftwood Motel once stood
  • If the $710,000 offer is accepted, the land across from the Oak Island Pier would become a public parking lot
  • The lot would be for paid parking, but council members say they'd keep property owners and residents exempt from the fees

The town council has made an offer to purchase a site on Ocean Drive where the Driftwood Motel once stood.

If the $710,000 offer is accepted, the land across from the Oak Island Pier would become a public parking lot.

Visitors say they would welcome more spaces, as finding a place to park can be tough, especially during the summer.

The lot would be for paid parking, but council members say they'd keep property owners and residents exempt from the fees.
