RALEIGH, N.C. -- Raleigh police are investigating a death that happened late Saturday night.

  • They found the body of 21-year-old Derrick Malik Wiley
  • Police discovered that Wiley was a suspect in a robbery that occurred the same evening at the Mini Mark on Old Wake Forest Road
  • During the incident, an employee and Wiley exchanged gunfire. Wiley was discovered with a gunshot wound to his leg

Officers were called to the scene in the 4200 block of Waterbury Road just before 10:30 p.m. for reports of gunfire in the area.

They found the body of 21-year-old Derrick Malik Wiley.

Police discovered that Wiley was a suspect in a robbery that occurred the same evening at the Mini Mark on Old Wake Forest Road.

During the incident, an employee and Wiley exchanged gunfire. Wiley was discovered with a gunshot wound to his leg.

No other injuries were reported, and no charges have been filed.
