BURGAW, N.C. -- A man died after hitting a tree on his motorcycle Sunday morning.

It happened at the intersection of Old River and New Roads.

Fifty-eight-year-old Robert Winston Bennett, Jr. was driving his Harley Davidson motorcycle when he failed to stop at the intersection, skidded through it, went off the road and hit a highway sign and then a tree.

Bennett was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident.
