The first Atlantic hurricane of the year continues to strengthen as it moved over the warm Atlantic waters.

The storm picked up some speed during the day Friday and further strengthening is expected continue into Saturday.

By late Sunday, Beryl will encounter wind shear that should cause the storm to weaken as it approaches Puerto Rico. As of now, Beryl does not appear to be a threat to the United States.

Closer to home, a disorganized area of low pressure off the coast of the Carolinas has a moderate chance of becoming a weak tropical system over the next several days.

It may not move very much from the weekend into early next week but is forecast to stay offshore. For now, it appears the only impact to the Carolina coast from this disturbance is an increased threat for rip currents, rough surf and breezy conditions for the coast for the next several days.
