WILMINGTON, N.C. -- A stabbing in downtown Wilmington left a man in serious condition.

  • Dacy Ferguson was stabbed in a Market Street parking lot.
  • William Thornton Sr. has been charged.
  • Ferguson was last listed in serious condition.

It happened Sunday around 5 p.m. in a parking lot on Market Street near the Second Street intersection.

Police say 49-year-old William Thornton Sr. is charged with assault in the stabbing of 35-year-old Dacy Ferguson.

Police say the two men are homeless and were arguing when Thornton stabbed Ferguson.

Thornton was taken into custody at the scene.

Ferguson is still in the hospital.
