WILMINGTON, N.C. -- We saw an active weather day on Monday, starting the new week with numerous showers and thunderstorms.

  • A cold front slipping into North Carolina triggered areas of showers and thunderstorms
  • On Tuesday we will see more clouds with another chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms
  • At the beaches on Tuesday, expected the chance for showers and storms

A cold front slipping into North Carolina triggered areas of showers and thunderstorms over a large portion of the Coastal Plain.  As the atmosphere continues to cool and stabilize through the night, the threat for thunderstorms will decrease with just a lingering shower chance for the overnight hours.

On Tuesday we will see more clouds with another chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms.

The front will lift northward on Wednesday and this will put the region in a warm and humid air mass.  A typical summer-time weather pattern will develop with the chance for afternoon and evening scattered showers and thunderstorms.  This pattern will continue into the upcoming weekend.

At the beaches on Tuesday, expected the chance for showers and storms with a moderate risk of rip currents.

In the tropics, there is a disturbance being monitored in the Caribbean.  It has a low chance of development at this time.
