The first of June brings thoughts of hot summer days and the start of hurricane season, well; it does for us meteorologists anyway.

We can already check off one name of the list of storms as Alberto showed up early.

The latest forecast for the hurricane season out of Colorado State University is for 13 more named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes. This is a slight reduction from its initial forecast.

This is near the 30-year average with below-average sea-surface temperatures a factor in the forecast.

As far as hot weather goes we’ll be feeling it for the start of June with most of us seeing highs in the 90s for Friday and Saturday.

As we approach the heat of the day you can expect showers and thunderstorms to develop with the chance of some storms producing gusty winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.

The good news is that as we head into the work week our unsettled weather finally quiets down with cooler temperatures and drier conditions.
