CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A woman has been charged with shooting at Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers early Friday morning is in custody.

  • A women is in custody for threatening to "shoot up" the Cookout on York Center Drive in south Charlotte.
  • Mikayla Avent, 20, has been charged. 
  • She also fired shots at police. 

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s Steele Creek Division have charged Mikayla Avent, 20, with Assault by Pointing a Firearm, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Resist/Delay/Obstruct a Public Officer, Discharging Firearm in City Limits, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon on Government Official.

Police say the Avent was in a rage and threatened to "shoot up" the Cook Out restaurant on York Center Drive before being spotted running from the intersection of South Tryon Street and Westinghouse Boulevard.

They say she fired at least two shots. The officers didn't return fire.

No one was hurt.
