NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. -- Weekend rains pounded our coast and caused some localized flooding on Saturday. Over five inches of rain poured in Wilmington.

The National Weather Service said it was actually the most rain the Port City has seen on that day. It was the 27th wettest day on record since 1871. The storm’s impact damaged berry crops at Lewis Farms in Wilmington.

"This amount of rain is not good for any fruit production. In strawberries, you'll have water checked berries and the blueberries, they'll get knocked off by the rain. And also some splitting in some varieties when they take in too much water," said Walt Webb.

Webb also said despite the flooding elaborate drainage systems kept the crops from being lost all together.
