ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. -- This is one way to put in work over the weekend.

  • Spectrum partnered with Rebuilding Together of the Triangle for the project
  • Homeowners couldn't repair it after patriarch lost his job
  • Helpers say it was a way to pay it forward

Spectrum employees and non-profit organization Rebuilding Together of the Triangle partnered to help repair a house in need north of Mebane Saturday morning. The home was in disrepair, but the homeowners could not repair it because the patriarch had a stroke and subsequently lost his job for health reasons.

Several Spectrum News personalities, including Capital Tonight host Tim Boyum and sports reporter J.B. Ricks, participated in the "housing assist". Boyum says this was a way for him to pay it forward to the community he serves.

"Words mean a lot, but action means a lot more when it comes to something like this," said Boyum. "There's a lot I could be doing on a Saturday, but there's nothing more important than helping these folks out. They need a little lift, and that's what we're here for."

Rebuilding Together of the Triangle has repaired more than 300 homes in need in the area.
