WILMINGTON N.C. -- A dozen Wilmington students demanding stricter gun laws, took their concerns to national leaders.

  • Congressman David Rouzer met with students and talked about gun reform
  • Students say they want to feel comfortable at school
  • 17 people died in a Florida school shooting in February

Congressman David Rouzer hosted a meeting with students from New Hanover County Schools on Thursday.

The issues ranged from universal background checks to banning high-capacity magazines and assault weapons.

One student who spoke at the meeting hopes it is a step to make other students feel comfortable at school following February's Parkland shooting.

"I want to see change happen, and I know I'm not going to let the conversation stop and I know everybody that was here wasn't going to let the conversation stop and I most definitely will do everything in my power to not let the conversation stop, ever," says New Hanover High School freshman Starr Holcolmbe.

17 people died in Parkland, Florida when a gunman opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
