DURHAM, N.C. – Nearly 750 from across the Triangle showed up in Durham Sunday for a meal to help those around them who don't have enough money to have a nutritious breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The purpose of “Durham’s Sunday Supper” was to raise awareness and money for a new Durham community food pantry which opens in the fall.

It will serve people who need extra food to help ends meet.

Organizers say food insecurity is a big issue.

“Parents shouldn't have to send their children to bed hungry,” said Lisa Perkins of Catholic Charities of Raleigh. “They shouldn't have to send their children to school hungry and families shouldn't have to make a choice between survive and feeding their families.”

People from Durham, Wake, Orange and surrounding counties all took part in the event.
