WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Hundreds of kids got to climb into boats, play inside trucks and sit on massive vehicles for fun.

On Sunday, the women of the Junior League of Wilmington hosted their 9th annual Touch-A-Truck event with 40 massive vehicles at Independence Mall.

The first hour is a quiet time for children with sound or light sensitivities.

One parent who has a child with special needs says having a time where the horns aren't blasting really helps.

"It's great because it makes me feel great as a parent that he can come out and witness and do all the other things that kids can do and doesn't have to be limited on what he can see or how long he can do things," said Wilmington resident Marie Randolph.

Organizers of the event say they love hosting this event for the community because it's a chance for people to bring their children to have fun while learning.

"Kids see the trucks everyday but it's really a good way for them to kind of talk to the operator or the service worker that uses the vehicle," said Junior League of Wilmington member Rachel Jacobs.

For a fee that benefits charitable projects of the Junior league, children got to learn about how the people driving the big vehicles protect and help serve the community.
