RALEIGH -- Hundreds of students from all over the country gathered at N.C. State University for a gun safety summit.

  • David Hogg, who survived the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in February, spoke at a gun safety summit at N.C. State Saturday.
  • Hogg says he wants to use his influence to reduce gun violence.
  • Hogg encourages people to register and vote,

The groups, Sandy Hook Promises and SAVE Promise Club, hosted the event. Among the speakers, David Hogg, a survivor of the Florida school shooting.

“And I kind of figured maybe if I couldn't make it out alive with these other individuals and our souls were left behind hopefully our voices will carry on,” he says.

Hogg says he wants to use his voice to inspire others to do what they can to reduce gun violence.

“What people need to do, if they want to do anything, just make sure you're registered to vote and vote,” he adds.

The event also had stations where people could write kind words to each other and sign the Promise table to do something.

“I think it's so important we do stuff like this to protect students and to get students aware of violence and help learn how to stop this stuff,” says Hayden Brown, a student from Texas.

“It's not about hating each other. It's about loving each other for who we are not for what we're not,” says Hogg.
