WILMINGTON -- Cape Fear Community College is receiving statewide recognition for the second year in a row.

A recent study from practicalnursing.org ranks their licensed practical nursing program as number one! That’s out of 36 North Carolina community colleges, technical centers, and private career schools in the entire state.

Many factors go into deciding the top program, including the pass rate, which for the 12th year in a row is 100% at CFCC.

In addition, the college has an 80 percent retention rate, which is considerably higher than the statewide average of 55 percent.

The program director says they work with local hospitals and most students find jobs right out of college making at least $20/hour.

"We really take pride in our graduates. Our community really looks for our graduates to come and work and they are supportive of our graduates and our college as well,” says Carolyn McCormick, Practical Nursing Director.

The LPN program is one of the oldest programs at CFCC and has been around for more than 50 years.
