GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Greenville has been identified.

Police say they responded to a call Sunday reporting that a woman, LaKeysha Johnson, was being attacked by Brian Bellamy, 41, with a knife.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Bellamy who was armed with a large knife.

Greenville Police Officer Antonio Webb commanded the suspect to drop the knife but Bellamy advanced while brandishing the weapon. Officer Webb drew his work-issued firearm and shot Bellamy, who died at the scene.

Johnson suffered multiple stab wounds, presumably at the hands of Bellamy. The two had reportedly been in a long-term relationship.

Officer Webb is on administrative leave, per standard procedure.

The SBI is investigating the incident following the request of the Greenville Police Department.
