JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Archery and basketball tipped off day four of the 2018 Marine Corps Trials aboard Camp Lejeune.

The seven day Paralympic-style adaptive sports event brings together more than 200 wounded, ill, or injured service members from six different countries.

So far, many competitors have earned medals but say the trials are more about building comradery.

"You learn that where your mental breakdown would happen back home in the civilian sector, that doesn't happen here,” said Sergeant Brandon Stevenson, a competitor in the competition.. “You're being encouraged, you're being pushed, I'm reaching down and I'm grabbing stuff I didn't think I had,” he added.

Swimming is the final competition on Saturday.

This is the first year the trials have been held on the east coast.
