WILMINGTON, N.C. -- More than 50 people came to Surf City on Saturday to put their creative skills to the test.

There were 12 teams of five and they each had three hours to complete their sand castles. Sandra Chisholm, a real estate agent with Re/Max Essential, created the event to raise money for Hope Abounds.

The Wilmington based non-profit provides resources and financial support to female, teen and child cancer patients plus their families. Chisholm says it's all about people helping people.

"It was my goal to help a cause this year and after doing some research, I found Hope Abounds and I love what they stand for. I love what they do and wanted to help them," Chisholm said.

Participants were judged on teamwork, creativity, and overall design. All proceeds from the event goes to Hope Abounds.
