CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- More than 200 wounded, ill, or injured service members are getting ready to compete in the 2018 Marine Corps Trials aboard Camp Lejeune.

The paralympic-style adaptive sports event brings together Wounded Warrior Battalion East and West along with 50 international competitors from six countries.

Those countries include the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Georgia, Australia and Colombia.

During the seven-day competition, participants will compete in 10 events including swimming, track, archery, wheelchair basketball and seated volleyball.

Competitors say the event helps with recovery and rehabilitation through comradery.

"We all have lived a lot of the same walks of life and we've all served in the military so that alone makes a huge difference in being able to come together," said Staff Sgt. Danielle Pothoff, who was injured in an IED blast back in 2011.

Cycling will be the first competition to kick off the Marine Corps Trials on Sunday starting at 8 a.m.
