This round of warm weather will continue into the weekend, but don’t pack away the sweaters just yet; it’s just too early for that in this part of the country.

It looks like our warm temperatures will continue into the new workweek, although it should be a little cooler than this week. Long range models are forecasting a return to colder weather around the first full week of March. The 8 to 14-day outlook from the Climate Prediction Center now indicates some potential for colder than average temperatures during that time.

We shouldn’t see the frigid temperatures we experienced in early January, but freezing temperatures overnight are definitely possible well into the month of March.

The average date for the last freeze for North Carolina ranges from late March near the coast to late April or early May in the mountains.
