Wilmington set a new record high Wednesday with the afternoon temperature reached 80. The old record was 78 from just four years ago.

Thursday's record currently stands at 78 from 2003. That will likely be broken as the temperature is forecast to reach 81 between 3 and 4 p.m.

Record highs could be tied or broken each day into the upcoming weekend. Highs around 80 are forecast through Sunday.

Our weather should remain dry into much of the weekend. There's a 30 percent chance for a few showers late Sunday. We'll see a higher chance for showers by Monday morning.

High temperatures will return to the 60s for the first half of next week in southeastern North Carolina. The Outer Banks could see highs in the 50s early next week.
