PENDER AND NEW HANOVER COUNTIES, N.C. -- New Hanover County Deputies responded to a possible violent threat at Myrtle Grove Middle School Thursday.

On Wednesday, two Pender County students were charged with making a false reports on their school grounds.

Law enforcement says they are working longer hours and dedicating staff to following up on various threats and false reports, many made on social media.

One thing lawmen stress is that they don't take light of any kinds of threat, especially one involving schools. This is why they're encouraging the community to report, re-post, the threats because they can cause panic.

This is causing some parents to become more diligent about their children's social media.

"They really feel like they don't have any consequences and repercussions and they're not taking accountability for their actions and they think nothing's going to come back on me because its on social media, they cant find me," says Wilmington mother Amy Shelton

The students from Pender County have been charged with making false reports concerning mass violence on educational property, the crime classifies as a felony.
