CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Some new wineries and cideries could soon open in Charlotte.

Monday night, Charlotte City Council put wineries, cideries and meaderies in the same zoning as breweries. Previously, wineries were restricted to the zoning areas they could open in so they often couldn't sell where breweries were located.

One cidery says it could bring a whole new type of craft beverages to Charlotte.

“This really opens the floodgates for us to investigate any and every property that we stumble upon,” Bold Rock Hard Cider VP of Retail Operations Lindsay Dorrier III said.

The petition applies to wineries, not vineyards so wineries won't be opening in Charlotte with an agricultural element.
