WINSTON-SALEM -- The man wanted for shooting at a Winston-Salem police officer is now in custody.

Police have 24-year-old Christopher Geter with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and a number of other charges.

Just before 11 Thursday night, an officer tried to stop a car near North Cleveland Avenue but the driver took off and fired shots at the officer.

Policer arrested Geter on New Walkertown Road Friday.

He also had an arrest warrant from an unrelated incident in January.

Geter is being held without bond and expected in court in March.

The officer was not hurt.
