COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. -- Columbus County Sheriff's responded to a call that said a body was found in a wooded area in Whiteville.

They say they received the call just before 1 p.m. Thursday to the area off of Hallsboro Road.

A logging crew working in the area located skeletal remains about a mile from the highway.

The remains were transported to the NC Medical Examiner's Office in Raleigh.

An identity has not yet been released.
