JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Police are reminding drivers about the dangers of road rage after an aggressive driving incident in Jacksonville turned into a shooting.

It happened near Huff Drive and Suffolk Circle around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police say the male victim was being tailgated by a silver four-door sedan.

They say the victim slowed down but then sped back up twice when the vehicle attempted to pass.

The suspect began shooting, striking the victim.

Police say the best thing to do when dealing with road rage is to stay calm, move over, and let the problem get away from you.

"If someone wants to pass you, just let them," said Captain Ashley Weaver with the Jacksonville Police Department. "It's not going to hurt you to be two seconds behind them, you're going to get there the exact same time, if you're even going to the same place."

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the Jacksonville Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
