NORTH CAROLINA -- The National Weather service is seeing a spike in the amount of fake weather forecasts appearing on social media sites like Facebook. That was just one of several topics at Wednesday’s annual team meeting that also brought in first responders from around the region.

When it comes to warning about actual danger, the National Weather service said they are gearing up to implement new technology. A radar upgrade next week will allow them to see inside storms better, providing faster and more accurate results.

“Regardless of what the forecast will be for the upcoming hurricane season, it only takes one storm. We live in an area that has an extreme hurricane history. We cannot live in fear but we certainly should live prepared,” said Steve Pfaff, National Weather Service.

Twenty-six agencies from both North and South Carolina attended Wednesday’s event.
