ONSLOW COUNTY-- On Tuesday, county officials hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to symbolize the completion of the second "shell" building at Burton Industrial Park.

The building is a 30,000 square-foot space designed to be expandable to double its current size.

The project cost $1.4 Million and took about a year to complete.

County officials plan to use the building as a recruitment tool to attract new industrial companies to Onslow County, creating more business and jobs.

"Even if a company comes to look at a shell building, this may not be the exact building they want, but it brings them into the county to then see what's the workforce like, what's the area like,” said Joey Carter, Chairman of the Jacksonville- Onslow Economic Development Commission.

Once the shell building is sold, Onslow County officials say that money will go towards constructing additional shell buildings.

Depending on how it’s divided, Burton Industrial Park has space for 20 to 30 additional businesses.
