The first work week of 2018 has been a cold one and the first weekend of 2018 will be cold as well.

High pressure will continue to control the weather across North Carolina through the night and into the upcoming weekend. This cold high pressure system will set the stage for another cold night with clear skies. With less wind tonight, we expect overnight lows to be even colder than they were Friday morning over much of the area. We will see less wind tonight but with even a light breeze with these cold overnight temperatures, wind chill values will make it feel close to 0.

More sun is in the forecast for Saturday, but daytime highs area expected to continue to run about 15 to 20 degrees below normal for early January. Conditions will remain cold into Sunday.

By Monday, we will see a moderating trend in our temperatures as another weather system moves into the state. We are expecting a chance for a few showers late Monday afternoon and Monday night. The milder pattern will continue through much of next week.
