KURE BEACH -- The future of Kure Beach parking is still up in the air. The town implemented a trial paid parking period this summer for 120 spots on the island.

Officials say the cost of setting up and managing the lots exceeded the revenue of $18,000.

Now, they're looking at several options, like finding other ways to manage the lots, adding even more paid spots or keeping all of them free.

"It is important to balance the needs of the community, the needs of the business owners, provide the necessary infrastructure and do it a reasonable cost and make this a nice welcoming community," says Kure Beach Mayor Craig Bloszinsky.

Town officials will discuss the paid parking during their retreat on January 26. They'll make a decision about next season shortly after.
